Texas Water Development Board Grant Awards – Flood Infrastructure Fund: Drainage Improvement Projects – Alexander (Location 4)

The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) has awarded $1,899,500 in grant and loan funding for critical drainage improvements in the Sarita Park 4 & 5 and Southmore Acres Subdivision.

Project Overview

The proposed drainage improvements will address significant flooding issues along Alexander Avenue from 11th Street to 14th Street. The upgrades will enhance the drainage system’s capacity to manage stormwater effectively.

Key Improvements:

  • Improvements to the existing ditch and adjacent culvert to support design flow
  • Channel excavation
  • Installation of 3,150 linear feet of stormwater-conveying system

Current Issues:

  • Flooding along Alexander Avenue from 11th Street to 14th Street
  • Poor drainage along the ditch on the south side of Alexander Avenue
  • Standing water in the ditch for days, leading to flooding in streets and residential yards
  • Inadequate channel capacity
  • Undersized driveway culverts

Community Benefits:

These improvements will mitigate flood-prone areas and enhance the stormwater infrastructure’s resilience, benefiting the residents of Sarita Park 4 & 5 and Southmore Acres Subdivision.
