I was born and raised in Kingsville, Texas and am a proud Texan. From an early age, I knew that I wanted to serve my community and my country. As a Kingsville native I graduated from H.M. King High School, attended Texas A&M University – Kingsville, joined the United States Army, served in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in Baghdad, Iraq and returned to my hometown of Kingsville, TX.
I was medically retired in December of 2018 after serving ten years in the Army. My retirement was ultimately decided due to line of duty injuries which were sustained during my service to the Army and to our Great United States of America. I was awarded the 260th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion Certificate of Achievement Unsung Hero Award. The Unsung Hero Award is awarded to a Soldier who is a skilled, dedicated, and diligent person giving of themselves without the thought of recognition and representing the true spirit of Selfless Service. I also retired with the following awards; Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with M Device, Certificate of Achievement, and a certificate of appreciation from the United States Navy. I am also proud that I was inducted into “Women in Military Service” at the America Memorial, which is in Washington, D.C.
I continue to serve my community as the first female Commander for the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2375 Kingsville (2019-2021), Junior Vice Commander of the Texas Veterans of Foreign Wars District 6 (2020-2021), Service Officer of American Legion Post 185 Bishop and VFW Post 2375 Kingsville. I also served as National Aide de Camp for the National Veterans of Foreign Wars (2019-2020). I have been a member of the Kingsville Chamber of Commerce, was Treasurer for the Kingsville Athletic Booster Club, and am the Sergeant at Arms for the Brahma JROTC Parent and Alumni Booster Club.
Through the works of these great organizations it has helped me focus on serving the citizens of Kingsville. I genuinely believe in service before self and believe there is no higher calling than service to the Citizens of Kingsville and the American people. Although I can no longer serve as a Soldier, the Army Values I learned will be present every day during my service as one of your Kingsville City Commissioners.
My husband, Christopher Torres and I have a blended family of six children, three beautiful young ladies and three handsome young men, four wonderful grandsons and one gorgeous granddaughter. My parents, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Sr. and Sylvia Sandoval are lifelong residents of Kingsville and raised me, my twin sister and two brothers in our great city.
Kingsville, Texas has and will always be my home and it is important that I help to make it the best not only for me, my family but also for our fellow neighbors and our future neighbors.
God Bless Kingsville and Our Great Nation!
